Although the sun has brought brutally hot temperatures for much of the season on Delmarva, the bright side is it has provided for the growth of not only delicious veggies but beautiful flowers. One spot on the loop around the road encircling campus is surely an eye-catcher: UMES’ newly registered All-America Selections Display Garden.

This summer Corrie Cotton, a research assistant professor in the Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Sciences, has given tours of the garden featuring the 18 varieties that have been tested nationally and proven locally to warrant the distinction.

“The AAS flowers in the UMES garden are marked with the name of the variety along with QR codes providing information about the plant,” Cotton said. “The garden is open to the community every day from dawn to dusk to view the latest AAS winners.”

UMES’ All-America Selections Display Garden Display Garden can be found at the end of Strickland Drive on the university’s main campus.
