Two University of Maryland Eastern Shore staff members recently graduated from the Leadership Maryland program, which consists of more than 1,600 leaders from all industries throughout the state.
UMES Chief of Staff and Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, Latoya Jenkins, and Dr. Madhumi Mitra, a full professor in the Department of Natural Sciences, completed the program that culminated with a Dec. 2 graduation ceremony in Annapolis. Jenkins and Mitra were two of 51 selected to participate in the eight-month hands-on learning program.
“On behalf of our staff, board, and membership, I congratulate the Executive Program Class of 2025 and Emerging Leader 2nd Class on their incredible achievement,” said David Fike, President and CEO, Leadership Maryland. “The graduates of both programs have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to personal and professional growth, and I am confident they will continue to drive meaningful change in their communities and across Maryland as part of our alumni network.”
As part of the most recent class, Jenkins and Mitra participated in an orientation and closing retreat that bookended five, two-day sessions focused on Maryland’s five main geographic regions and the most vital issues impacting economic development, education, health and human services, criminal justice, the environment, and multiculturalism/diversity across the state.
More than 100 experts representing Maryland’s business, government, education, and non-profit communities served as panelists and guest speakers.
The Executive Program is open to senior-level executives with significant achievements in their careers and/or their communities. Ideal Leadership Maryland members have a desire to learn more about Maryland’s most critical issues and a personal commitment to be a force for positive change in their organizations, their communities, and their state.
Jenkins and Mitra join President Heidi M. Anderson, former Chief of Staff Robert Mock, and Vice President for Athletics and Recreation, Tara Owens, as the most recent UMES graduates from the influential program.
