Traveling Agritourism Workshop

Learn about successes and challenges directly from agritourism operators at this Traveling Agritourism Workshop hosted by UMES Extension on Monday, June 10, with a tour of two agribusinesses on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Take a bus to Blades Orchard in Federalsburg, Caroline County, and Emily’s Produce in Cambridge, Dorchester County, for this traveling workshop. It leaves University of Maryland Eastern Shore at 8 a.m. The tour returns to UMES  campus at 5:30 p.m.

Hear how Blades Orchard reimagined its farm and orchard U-pick into a Community Supported Agriculture model that now offers online ordering and pick-up at area farmers markets year-round or on-farm by appointment for items including apples, value-added apple products, honey, cheeses and other seasonal fruit. It also offers event rentals and professional fruit tree consultation services.

Emily’s Produce, a seven-generation family farm featuring “Food, Flowers and Fun,” offers U-pick strawberries, blueberries, wildflowers and pumpkins, along with a full-service kitchen and farm stand selling Maryland produce, grass-fed beef, wine, beer and ice cream. Seasonal events, corn mazes and youth activities are part of its agribusiness.

Pre-registration is required by May 31. The $50 fee includes breakfast at UMES and lunch at Emily’s Produce. Participants are asked to join us for breakfast and check-in from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at the Richard A. Henson Center.
