Undergraduate Degree Programs

Computer Science – The Computer Science program is ideal for persons who wish to pursue their careers in government agencies, private corporations or graduate study in computer science-related interdisciplinary degree programs. The content of this degree program is designed to train students in the theory and application of computer science in a variety of disciplines. Courses are offered in a variety of topics including programming languages, data structures, computer organization and architecture, software engineering, operating systems, and other computer science areas

Computer Science with Business Focus – This program is designed for persons who wish to pursue careers in information systems, operations research, and database management. The content of this program is designed to train students in the theory and application of computer science and its application in business disciplines. Courses include Software Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Organization, Data Structures and Algorithms, Theory of Computation, Programming Languages, Databases and Operating Systems.

Gaming and Software Engineering (starting fall 2024) – The goal of our Game Development and Software Engineering program is to advance the field of game development by integrating a robust software engineering curriculum with hands-on experience in cutting-edge, immersive technologies. We emphasize innovation in gaming through the exploration and application of immersive technologies, which include both Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR). Our program is structured to provide a deep understanding of software engineering principles, ensuring that our students are well-equipped to design, develop, and innovate in the ever-evolving landscape of game development. This holistic approach aims to produce skilled professionals who are proficient in both the technical and creative aspects of gaming, ready to lead and excel in the dynamic world of game technology.

Concentration in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology
The curriculum for the BS in Engineering Technology with a concentration in Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology (ET-EEET) follows The Association of Technology Management and Applied Engineering (ATMAE) and ABET-ETAC recommendations for courses leading to an undergraduate degree in Engineering Technology with a concentration in Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology. The ET-EEET program gives students “hands-on” experiences in using various types of electronic instrumentation used by industry, learning CAD and 3D printing, utilizing circuit board milling machines, attending industrial lecture series, field trips, networking events, and various other application-based activities. The coursework of the engineering technology program is highly focused on application. Each technical course will have a laboratory component and/or a project. The faculty in the ET-EEET program are dedicated to giving students learning experiences that directly translate to industry. The faculty members of the ET-EEET program are involved in industry, perform research in the area of electronics, and work closely with industry partners to find internships, scholarships, and employment opportunities for students. Please see our Student Performance and Achievement Information.

Graduate Degree Programs

Applied Computer Science – The Department offers a Master of Science (Thesis or Non-thesis option) in Applied Computer Science. This program provides advanced understanding, knowledge, and research opportunities related to computer science that prepare students to apply their skills in business, industry, academia, government agencies, consultancy, etc. The primary emphasis reflects current theoretical and applied computing in multi-disciplinary applications. The program includes two concentrations: data and computational science and software engineering.

Cybersecurity Engineering Technology – The program prepares the graduates with the technical knowledge and skills needed to conduct operations that protect and defend information and information systems by ensuring availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and non-repudiation. This includes providing for the restoration of information systems by incorporating protection, detection, and reaction capabilities.

Applied Computing and Engineering Program – The Ph.D. program aims to produce the next generation leaders in computing and engineering and offers prospective students a graduate program with strong foundations in a versatile and dynamic field that blends knowledge across multiple disciplines in applied computing and engineering. The curriculum of the program is devised to harness faculty expertise and experience in various technical fields in the School of Business and Technology at UMES. The program, facilitates and promotes students to develop innovative technologies in emerging fields such as cybersecurity, data and computational science, and software engineering, for a wide range of applications including business, finance, agriculture, healthcare, automobile, aerospace, and clean energy systems, etc. that are critical to the economic development of the region and the state.
