PRINCESS ANNE, MD – National Library Week at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) comprises a celebration of writers and presenters, from the University as well as the Eastern Shore community, who present excerpts from their works, discussing how they evolved from their life’s experience.
Kathy Winter and Melissa Green, both lecturers in the UMES Department of English and Modern Languages, conduct a poetry reading on Monday, April 16. On Tuesday, April 17, Author Pearline Mitchell, offers excerpts from her book, “From Here I Watch: Poems and Stories.”
Sudie Gatlin presents a trunk show on the “History of Black Education on Delmarva” on Wednesday, April 18; and Ed Taylor, author of “Just God & Me: A Korean War Veteran Remembers” (2005) and “Up From the Strawberry Patch” (2007), reads excerpts on Thursday, April 19.
On Friday, April 20, the Frederick Douglass Library celebrates the works of two presenters Rena Finney and Dr. Kimberly Matthews. Finney is a Frederick Douglass Library staff member and author of “Half Way to Tomorrow” (2003), “Summer Breeze” (2007) and “I Ain’t Perfect” (2007). Matthews is author of “The Perfect Shoe” (2007).
All presentations will be held in the Frederick Douglass Library auditorium from 3 – 4:30 p.m. and are open and free to the public. A special invitation is extended to the UMES community and English and education majors, as well as aspiring writers.
