Eligibility
The Honors Program at University of Maryland Eastern Shore welcomes applications from continuing students who demonstrate strong academic performance in prior coursework pursued at the university. Preference is given to Maryland residents, but all students meeting the basic criteria are invited to apply. Applications are reviewed when submitted (there is no formal deadline); however, students are encouraged to submit their application well in advance of the term of desired enrollment (by November 1 for Spring admission; April 1 for Fall admission).
Application Procedure
1. The applicant should complete the application to the Honors Program, to be accompanied by a resume, personal essay, and at least one letter of recommendation provided by a faculty member at UMES. The reviewing committee will access your transcript online – there is no need to provide a copy of your UMES transcript.
The resume should detail leadership roles held; awards/honors received; co-curricular activities; community service efforts; and other indicators of the applicant’s performance and success during High School and while at UMES.
The personal essay should express why admission into the Honors Program is sought, including specific reference to features of the Henson Program at UMES that are of particular interest to the applicant and what talents or experiences the applicant hopes to contribute to the UMES honors community. Suggested length of the essay is +/- 250 words.
At least one letter of recommendation from a faculty member at UMES will be included in the application. Applicants are advised to request this letter from a faculty member with whom they have closely worked and to provide the reference sufficient time to complete the recommendation (as a courtesy, 7-10 days minimum advanced notice).
2. The completed Honors Program application, resume, essay, and letter(s) of recommendation should be sent to:
