The tabs below list Newspapers and Current Events e-resources available through the Frederick Douglass Library. These resources can be accessed by clicking on the title link. When connecting from off campus, you will be prompted for the 14-digit barcode from the back of your HawkCard ID and your last name.

Baltimore Afro-American (1893-1988) (ProQuest Historical Newspapers) – This database provides full-text historical coverage for The Baltimore Afro-American newspaper, also known as The Afro or Afro News.

Baltimore Sun (1991-Current) (ProQuest) – This database provides full-text, abstracts and indexing for The Baltimore Sun. Coverage: 9/16/1990 – current

Christian Science Monitor (1988-Current) (ProQuest) – This database provides indexing, abstracts and full-text for The Christian Science Monitor, noted for its unbiased, concise and comprehensive reporting. Coverage: 1988 (except gap from 11/7/1990 to 3/29/1992) – current

New York Times (1999-Current) (ProQuest) – This database provides indexing, abstracts and full-text for the New York Times, New York Times Book Review and New York Times Magazine. It is a newspaper of record. Coverage: 1/1/99 – current. 

New York Times (1851-2014) (ProQuest Historical Newspapers)

Nexis Uni (Lexis Nexis)- Formerly Lexis Nexis Academic, this database contains news, legal cases, law reviews, company information and many other business, law and news publications. Includes over 15,000 full-text sources. Content includes New York Times, U.S. Supreme Court decisions, company profiles, SEC filings and more. Note: Washington Post is no longer included.

Regional Business News (EBSCO) – This database provides full-text coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from the metropolitan and rural areas of the U.S. Updated daily. 

Wall Street Journal (1984-Current) (ProQuest) – This database provides indexing, abstracts and full-text for the Wall Street Journal, a financial paper of record. Coverage: 1/2/84 – current 

Wall Street Journal (1889-2000) (ProQuest Historical Newspapers)

Washington Post (1984-Current)(ProQuest) – This database provides indexing, abstracts and full-text for The Washington Post newspaper known for its political reporting, editorialsandcolumnists. Coverage: 1/1/1987 – current 

Washington Post (1877-2001) (ProQuest Historical Newspapers)

Current Events

CQ Reseacher (CQ Press) – This full-text database provides comprehensive analysis of topics covered, including history and background information, relevant pro/con arguments, current status, bibliographies, contact information, and outlooks on upcoming “hot topics” in current events. Topics include social issues to the environment, health, education, politics and science and technology. Coverage: 10/25/1991 – current

Opposing Viewpoints (Gale) – This database draws on the acclaimed social issues series published by Greenhaven Press, as well as core reference content from other Gale and Macmillan Reference USA sources to provide pro/con analysis on social issues. Access viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to websites and full-text magazine and newspaper articles. 

SIRS Issues Researcher (ProQuest) – This database provides analysis and opinions (pros and cons) for approximately 360 social, scientific, health, economic and political issues of the day. Full-text results are based on information curated from books, government documents, magazines, newspapers and scholarly journals.
