Below is a quick guide of citation examples from the latest edition of the Council of Science Editors (CSE). The library also provides access to RefWorks, an online citation management tool, that allows you to import citations from databases and websites and automatically create bibliographies (be sure to set the output style to CSE, 8th edition).

BioOne Abstracts – This website provides abstracts and indexing for BioOne’s research journals covering the biological, ecological and environmental sciences. 

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)– This web database contains full-text coverage for over 15,000 peer-reviewed open access journals in all areas of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, arts and humanities.

GreenFILE (EBSCO) –This database is a collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles. Content includes the environmental effects of individuals, corporations and local/national governments and how to minimize these effects. Topics include global climate change, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling and more.

JSTOR Global Plants– This online platform collects global plants content, tools, and people interested in biological and plant science. It has foundational content vital to plant science, including plant type specimens, taxonomic structures, scientific literature, and related materials such as letters, maps, paintings, and drawings.

Natural Science Collection (ProQuest) – This source includes the Agricultural & Environmental Science Collection, the Biological Science Collection and the Earth, Atmospheric & Aquatic Science Collection and provides full-text titles from scholarly journals, trade and industry journals, magazines, technical reports, conference proceedings, government publications and more. PLOS BIOLOGY – This monthly peer-reviewed open access scientific journal covers all aspects of biology. Published by Public Library of Science (PLOS). Coverage: 10/13/2003 – current  

SAGE Premier Journals (SAGE Publishing) – This web database provides full-text access to more than 650 peer-reviewed journals, including high-impact research and international titles on behalf of over 500 scholarly and professional societies. Search by topic, e-journal title or by the Life & Biomedical Sciences discipline.

ScienceDirect (Elsevier) – This full-text database contains peer-reviewed journal titles and ebooks covering the fields of science, technology and medicine. It includes extensive coverage in the physical and biological sciences, engineering and life sciences. TOXLINE (ProQuest) – This database, produced by the U.S. National Library of Medicine, provides bibliographic citations and abstracts from the core journal literature in all areas of toxicology, including chemicals and pharmaceuticals, pesticides, environmental pollutants and mutagens and teratogens. TOXLINE can also be searched through the Natural Science Collection link. Coverage: 1999 to the present.

Ebook Central (ProQuest) – This database is a collection of thousands of full-text online books on a broad range of subjects in the humanities, natural and physical sciences and the social sciences.

Ebook Collection (EBSCO) – Formerly NetLibrary, this collection of ebooks covers topics chosen by the University of Maryland Libraries.

Ebook Comprehensive Academic Collection (EBSCO) – This multidisciplinary collection includes over 200,000 ebook titles covering a large selection of academic subjects and features ebooks from leading publishers and university presses. 

Ebooks(OCLC) – This online catalog contains all the electronic books cataloged by OCLC members. 

JSTOR – An electronic archive of journals in in the following areas: Arts & Sciences, Business, Ecology & Botany, Hebrew Journals, Ireland, Jewish Studies and Life Sciences. Also provides access to primary source collections.

MasterFILE Premier (EBSCO) – This full-text database provides coverage to nearly 2,000 general periodicals, reference books and primary source documents. It also includes an extensive image collection containing photos and maps.

OAIster (OCLC) – OAIster is a search interface to locate digital resources.

PapersFirst (OCLC) – This index contains papers presented at conferences worldwide. Over 2,380,000 records. Coverage: 1993 – current 

ProceedingsFirst (OCLC) – This resource is an index of worldwide conference proceedings with over 74,000 records. Each record contains a list of the papers presented at the conference. Coverage: 1993 – current 

WorldCat (OCLC) – WorldCat is the world’s most comprehensive database of information about library collections. Includes books, journals and all other types of media.
