Location and Setting
The university sits on 745 acres and owns another 385 acres on a nearby research farm. There are approximately 3,300 students enrolled; 93 percent are undergraduates. Students have various backgrounds and come from thirty states and fifty-five other countries. Fifty-five percent of the students live in on-campus housing. All students may keep cars on campus. UMES is located in the small town of Princess Anne on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The town dates back to 1733 and has many buildings and landmarks of historic interest. The quiet community environment is excellent for learning, yet it is only 3 hours by car from the abundant cultural and recreational facilities of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Virginia Beach. The state’s famous seaside resort, Ocean City, is only 1 hour from the campus. The campus is located 13 miles south of the town of Salisbury, which provides shopping and recreational facilities.
