Developing New Solutions to Honors Students’ Challenges in STEM Disciplines

This activity seeks to strengthen the Richard A. Henson Honors Program at UMES by addressing three major gaps in student support and resources. First, it will expand honors course offerings—particularly through developing online HONR seminars in STEM fields, supported by faculty training and technology. Second, it will provide targeted advising for students on honors probation to ensure they receive the guidance needed to succeed academically. Third, it will establish a dedicated campus space for honors students to study, build community, hold meetings, and support their overall well-being. Together, these efforts aim to enhance the honors student experience, reduce barriers to success, and bring UMES offerings in line with peer institutions.

Enhancing Global Learning

This activity aims to promote global learning for students, faculty, staff, and the community by fostering cross-cultural understanding and global competence. By merging the Foreign Language Instructional Center and the Center for International Education into the Office of Global Opportunities, the activity integrates resources to prepare students for global engagement and sustainable development, both locally and globally.
