Do All Residents Move In On The Same Day?

  • No, All RETURNING residential students with confirmed residence hall room assignments will move in on August 24 – 25th, 2024 and NEW residential students with confirmed residence hall room assignments will move in on August 18th, 2024.

What Should I Be Doing Before Move-In Day?

  • Please review the “What to Bring” checklist.
  • Complete payment confirmation prior to arrival on campus.

What should I bring to check-in?

  • Bring your government-issued photo ID to the check-in location (Clusters Parking Lot)
  • Residents should also bring move-in equipment when possible to expedite their check-in process. Move-in equipment includes dollies, carts, etc.
  • Residence Life will have some equipment on hand but will need to disinfect the equipment after each use, which may slow down the check-in process.

Can I check in early?
Early check-in requests will not be approved. If you are not able to make your scheduled check
in date, you may request a later arrival date to occur before noon on the first day of class.

Do I Really Need To Schedule A Check-In Appointment?

  • Yes! Scheduling an appointment helps us to ensure that we are following safety guidelines to protect everyone, help manage crowd sizes, and reduce risk.
  • Please coordinate with us so that we can manage the crowd size while following proper safety protocols. Again, our priority at this moment is the safety of our residents and their loved ones.

What Am I To Expect When Checking In?

  • New residents must submit health documentation before they can check in. This will be verified at check-in.

***Please remember that all residents are legally bound to their housing contract that ends on May 18, 2025. Refer to the Housing Terms and Conditions for further information. For information on what to pack, see the attached list of What To Bring”.

Why am I going to the Clusters Parking Lot?

  • Fall check-in is centralized this semester to maintain social distancing and to expedite your move-in process. To that end, the Office of Residence Life is hosting a centralized check-in at the Clusters Parking Lot to accommodate everyone faster. We estimate your wait time will be 15 – 20 minutes to complete check-in once you are in line at the Clusters Parking Lot.All residents must check in at the Clusters Parking Lot before driving to or unloading at their assigned residence hall.
  • Please arrive during your allotted time. If a traffic jam or unexpected delay causes you to be a few minutes late, don’t worry. Relax and drive safely. You do not need to notify Residence Life that you are running a few minutes late. However, if you are running hours (or a day) late, try to update the check-in scheduler online, call 410.651.6144, or email Residence Life at reslife@umes.edu.
  • Residence Life staff will be wearing their university-issued name tags and have shirts that identify them as staff. They will be able to help you with any questions.
