Spring 2025 Closing and Move-Out Information
Graduating students are expected to check out no later than May 16 by 3:00 pm.
Non-graduating residents are expected to leave 24 hours after their last exam and no later than 7:30 pm on May 15, 2025. If you need to remain on campus anytime after 7:30 pm on May 15, you will need to submit the Late Checkout Request form. The deadline to submit a late stay request is May 1.
For students planning to be in housing for Summer Session 1 and need transition housing, you must still complete the Late Checkout Request form. Please note that students approved for transition housing will incur a weekly housing fee that will be charged to your summer bill.
Residents in transition housing must be prepared to move into their summer room assignment and out of transition housing at the direction of the Office of Residence Life. Residents will be given advanced notice to prepare for the move.
Spring 2025 Closing Check list
To avoid any charges at closing, please follow these general check out instructions:
- Schedule a Checkout Appointment with your RA to inspect your room for cleanliness and damages.
- Return your key to your Community Manager, Area Director, or Residence Hall staff on duty.
- To avoid lock re-core charges, you must return your key(s) to the community service desk before leaving campus.
- Clean your room and common areas, including wiping down appliances, drawers, shelves, closets, and cabinets.
- Remove all personal belongings from your room and common areas before checking out.
- Be sure to check laundry rooms and lounges for any missing items. University Housing is not responsible for items left behind after you check-out.
- Discard all trash in the exterior dumpsters and recycle bins. Leaving trash in your room may result in an improper check out fee being charged to your student account.
- Report any maintenance concerns or damages using the online work order system.
- Close and lock all windows; set room thermostats to 70 degrees.
- Turn off all lights, and close and lock all doors.
- Pick up all mail and packages from your community’s service desk before leaving campus.
Fall Closing
Returning for Spring – Winter Break Closing
Residents returning for the spring semester who wish to leave personal belongings in their residence hall must be in good financial standing with the university and registered for Spring Semester courses. Residents meeting these requirements may leave belongings in your space during the Winter Break period; however, will not have access to your space for the duration of the break period.
- Pack and store all personal belongings in your room closet if you plan to return for the spring semester.
- Schedule a Checkout Appointment with your RA to inspect your room for cleanliness and damages.
- Turn in your key(s) to your Community Manager, Area Director, or Residence Hall staff on duty.
- Set room thermostat: depending on the unit set the thermostat to 70 degrees.
- Remove all perishable food, unplug, defrost, and clean refrigerators.
- Remove all trash and recycling, placing it in appropriate receptacles outside the building. No trash should be left in hallways, rooms, or suite bathrooms.
- Take all valuables and personal items you may need over break, including but not limited to: driver’s license, passport, travel documents, medications, chargers, laptops, tablets, cell phones, favorite outfits, keys, notes, books and any other item you think you might need while you’re away. Residents who are not pre-approved for Winter Break Housing will not have access to their buildings during the break.
- Remove any laundry you may have left in the building laundry room.
- If you have an Emotional Support Animal (ESA), remember to take your ESA and pet food with you.
- Make sure there is no water running (sinks, shower, etc.).
- Shut and lock all windows and doors.
- Turn off all room/suite/apartment lights. Lock room and suite/apartment doors.
Residence Halls re-open at 8:00 am on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
Not Returning for the Spring Semester Checkout Process
- Submit the Release from Housing form. Non-graduating residence please see the Breach of Contract policy in the Housing Contract.
- Schedule a Checkout Appointment with your RA to inspect your room for cleanliness and damages.
- Turn in your key(s) to your Community Manager, Area Director, or Residence Hall staff on duty.
- Set room thermostat: depending on the unit set the thermostat to 70 degrees.
