IRB Member Professional Development Opportunities
In addition to maintaining your CITI Biomedical Research Investigator or Social & Behavioral Research Investigator certification and RCR for Human Subjects, the following professional development opportunities are offered to the IRB membership.
CITI IRB Members
- Login to CITI using the following link:
https://www.citiprogram.org/index.cfm?pageID=14 - Next to UMES select “View Courses”
- Scroll to the bottom of the page.
- Under “Learner Tools for UMES”, select “Add a Course”
- Question 1 – Select IRB Members: This Basic Course is appropriate for IRB or Ethics
- Committee members.
- Click “Submit” and the course will populate on your “My Courses” page.
- Complete the course.
CITI IRB Protocol Review
This course in CITI focuses on nonexempt IRB protocol reviews. You can access the course in the following manner:
- Login to CITI using the following link:

- Next to UMES select “View Courses”
- Scroll to the bottom of the page.
- Under “Learner Tools for UMES”, select “Add a Course”
- Ignore Questions 1-5
- Question 6 – IRB Protocol Review – select “Yes”
- Click “Submit” and the course will populate on your “My Courses” page.
- Complete the course.
Human Research Protection Foundational Training
This is a 5-lesson program offered by the OHRP that is estimated to take a total of 5 hours to complete. Training does not have to be completed in one sitting; however, you must print the certificate when you complete each lesson as OHRP does not track completion.
Considerations For Reviewing Human Subjects Research
This is a 3-lesson interactive program offered by the OHRP that is estimated to take a total of 90 minutes to complete. Training does not have to be completed in one sitting; however, you must print the certificate when you complete each lesson as OHRP does not track completion.
