AG Field Day at UMES
PRINCESS ANNE, MD – (Aug, 10, 2012) – Research displays and demonstrations, community and government support agency booths and healthy cooking demonstrations are all a part of Agriculture Field Day scheduled at UMES on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. While pre-registration is required, the event is free and open to the community.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Following the opening program at 9 a.m., farmers, agriculture professionals, home gardeners, agriculture students, and their families may visit a number of exhibitor booths and educational displays until the end of the day. Participants may also choose between the following tours and demonstrations, which will run concurrently between 9:45 a.m. and 12:20 p.m.: the plant science research tour, the high tunnel fruit production tour, the poultry litter subsurface application demonstration, the basic concepts for sheep and goat producers tour, the precision agriculture demonstration and the rainfall simulator.
Fun activities are planned throughout the day for the children as well as the young at heart. Lunch will be provided to participants who register before Aug. 31. Lunch for participants who register after the registration deadline is not guaranteed. Concurrent information sessions begin at 1:45 p.m. The Natural Resources Conservation Service
(NRCS) will host one session. UMES food safety scientists will host the other.
