UMES music department offers free concerts
PRINCESS ANNE, MD- (Nov. 1, 2012) The Department of Fine Arts at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore fills the Ella Fitzgerald Center for the Performing Arts with the sounds of music Sun., Nov. 11 and Wed., Nov. 14.
The concert choir, under the direction of Dr. Roy Belfield, performs Nov. 11, at 4 p.m. Its repertoire includes selections from Rene’ Clausen, Moses Hogan, Phillip McIntyre, Lloyd Pfautsch, Rosephanye Powell and John Rutter. A choral group from Winston-Salem State University will appear as special guests.
UMES’ Wind Ensemble presents its fall concert Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. The instrumental group is under the direction of Mercury Morris, a university alumnus and area musician. Virgil Boysaw, a trombonist and senior at UMES, will be the guest conductor for the evening. A few of the pieces that will be played are “Procession of the Nobles” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, “Overture for a Winter Festival” by James Curnow, “Danza Final” by Ginastera and “None but the Lonely Heart” by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky . .
