PRINCESS ANNE, MD – The Annual Student Show is on display at UMES’ Mosely Gallery until Friday, April 27. The tradition to display a variety of student work was established in 1986 by Ernest Satchell, chair of the Department of Fine Arts.

This type of exhibition differs from other shows, as it is organized by Fine Art students, from freshmen to seniors, and includes a wide variety of mediums.
The goal is to encourage and highlight the endeavors of students at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and to create a vehicle for student collaboration across disciplines. Such collaborations can come in many forms, such as design, exploration, research, art, etc.

The show is organized from beginning to end by students and elected officials, known as the Gallery Committee, consisting of Arionne Carroll, Chris Clarke, David Price, Jason Shipp and Jeanaye Wright.

Organizing the show includes submitting title ideas and a vote on the title of the visual arts event. Upper level student David Price came up with the longest title “Totally Extreme Awesome Show of Amazing to the Max Students” (TEASOATTMS) and won. Also the postcard invitation is a contest among digital design students. The winning postcard design this year is by illustration major Chanel Anderson.

Students created their own works of art, inspired by art in the exhibition and by their experiences. Works on display will include the medium ceramics, sculpture, painting, photography, digital and printmaking.

Cultural programs at the Mosely Gallery are made possible with the generous support of the Somerset County Arts Council and the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore. The Mosely Gallery is located in the Arts & Technology Building.  Operating hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and exhibitions are free and open to the public. Follow the signs to Mosely Gallery from US Route 13 and UMES Boulevard.  Free parking is provided during the event at UMES Parking Lot I.
