ANNAPOLIS, Md. – (Feb. 7, 2012) – The legislature’s Eastern Shore delegation had a surprise waiting for University of Maryland Eastern Shore students who visited Maryland’s statehouse today.

Both chambers of the General Assembly adopted resolutions saluting UMES’ contribution to education over the past 125 years and presented them to the students. Del. Charles Otto (R-Somerset) and Sen. Jim Mathias (D-Worcester) were chief sponsors on behalf of the Shore delegation.

The university organizes an annual trip to Annapolis each year to provide elected student leaders with an up-close look on how the legislature functions and interacts with state agencies.

The student delegation was scheduled to meet and have lunch with lower Eastern Shore lawmakers.

The co-curricular event is organized by the university’s Division of Student Life and Enrollment Management.
