PRINCESS ANNE, MD-(Feb. 28, 2012)-Antonio Fargas, a comedic actor best known for his role of “Huggy Bear” in the ’70s television show, “Starsky and Hutch,” will be the master of ceremonies at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Gala, March 3.

Fargas’s career has spanned over 40 years and includes success in film, television and stage. 

Fargas starred as “Henry” in the movie, “Across 110th Street,” alongside Anthony Quinn and with 2011 Gala guest Pam Grier in the movie, “Foxy Brown,” as “Link Brown.”  Some of his other film credits include “Shaft,” “Car Wash,” and “Pretty Baby.”

The actor had recurring roles in the mid-80’s on ABC’s soap opera “All My Children” as Angie Hubbard’s father and most recently as “Doc” in the sitcom “Everybody Hates Chris.”  He also appeared in “Martin” and “Living Single.”

Fargas’ stage career includes performances on and off Broadway including “Ain’t Supposed to Die a Natural Death,” and “The Great White Hope.”  Most recently, he played the part of “Toledo” in a revival of August Wilson’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, England.

Tickets are still available at two levels-an Oscar ticket for $175 and a VIP ticket for $500.  Both include gourmet hors d’oeuvres, a four-course dinner in the presence of celebrity guests, dancing to live music and souvenir photos.  The VIP ticket adds preferred seating at the Gala and special receptions with celebrities at the Courtyard Marriott in Ocean City on March 2 and one hour prior to the Gala on March 3.
