PRINCESS ANNE, MD-(Sept. 9, 2011) The University of Maryland Eastern Shore welcomes the public to an observance of the September 11 terrorist attacks that shocked the nation 10 years ago on Sunday.
A Remembrance Day wreath-laying ceremony takes place on the International Flag Mall in front of the university’s administration building at 9 a.m. Rev. Elmer N. Davis Jr., pastor of St. James United Methodist Church, Westover, Md. and Trinity Community Worship Center, Princess Anne, Md., will give remarks. A contingent from the UMES Gospel Choir will provide music.
“We (the UMES community) remember those who lost their lives in the tragedy of 9/11. Our hearts go out to their loved ones as we unite on this observance 10 years later,” said Dr. James White, associate vice president for campus life. White also says the event recognizes first responders “near and far, who put their lives on the line daily that we may feel safe and secure at home.”
The ceremony honors those who perished in the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania.
