PRINCESS ANNE, MD-(Sept. 21, 2012) International Day of Peace, Sept. 19, a day of global cease fire, was observed with the screening of the film “Peace One Day” at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

The film documents Jeremy Gilley’s journey to secure recognition by the United Nations General Assembly for one day of global cease fire and non-violence, said Tammy Gharbi, coordinator of the university’s Foreign Language Instructional Center.  Footage of Kofi Annan, the Dalai Lama and the childhood victims of conflict in regions around the world are featured.

FLIC declared Sept. 20 UMES Peace Day and invited university students, faculty and staff to form a human peace sign on the lawn in front of the Ella Fitzgerald Center for the Performing Arts for a photo opportunity.

Peace Day activities at UMES are sponsored by the Foreign Language Instructional Center, a Title III Activity and the Department of English and Modern Languages.  Call 410-651-6543 for more information.
