PRINCESS ANNE, MD- (Nov. 4, 2016)– The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Concert Choir salutes active U.S. servicemen and women and veterans at its Nov. 13 performance.

The 4 p.m. concert in honor of Veterans’ Day takes place in the Ella Fitzgerald Center on UMES’ campus.

The 35-member ensemble welcomes guest soprano Patricia Saunders Nixon of Norfolk (Va.) State University and the 20-member DuVal High School Concert Chorus from Lanham, Md. under the direction of UMES alumnus Kevin Allen.

Nixon, accompanied by the UMES Concert Choir, will perform a long-standing favorite-an arrangement of Neil Enloe’s “Statue of Liberty.”

The concert also includes “Sights and Sounds of Barbados, West Indies,” highlights from the choir’s performance tour last spring.

“We take pride in honoring our veterans.  It is often said “freedom is not free.”  It’s our veterans who have paid the tab for us – some with their lives,” said Dr. Sheila McDonald Harleston, director.

The concert is free and open to the public.  Call 410-651-6571 for more information.
