UMES graduating art students host interactive show
PRINCESS ANNE, MD -(May 11, 2016)–“Art ‘N Chill,” the senior fine arts show now on display at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Mosely Gallery offers a few interactive twists.
Photographer Lydell McKissic Jr.’s “Instagram Statement” was “inspired by the growing need for everything to be placed on social media. People need to be liked or hear good comments about themselves or their work.”
McKissic invites gallery-goers “viewing his profile” to use sticky-notes provided to leave a comment or just a “like” next to the artist’s montage of nine color photographs. He also has a hands-on installation in the show of photographic equipment.
Local graphic illustrator Jose Diaz draws you into a challenge to decipher a message encrypted in a manipulated eye exam chart.
Along with McKissic and Diaz, artists Larry Hale, Salisbury native Beth Chaffey and Hawa Bangura display photos of themselves framed by an autograph area for viewers to comment on their works, said Susan Holt, UMES’ Mosely Gallery director.
“The show features an excellent sampling of programs in UMES’ Department of Fine Arts; graphic illustration, commercial photography and sequential arts,” Holt said. “It also highlights the success that can be achieved with the talent and hard work of our students.”
The exhibit closes with a reception May 19, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the gallery located in the Thomas Briggs Arts and Technology Building. The gallery is free and open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 410-651-7770 or visit www.moselygallery.com for more information.
