PRINCESS ANNE, MD – Roger D. Estep, DVM, has been named senior advisor for government relations at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. A staunch supporter of the institution, Estep, retired vice president of development and university relations at Howard University, has served his undergraduate alma mater in several different capacities since his graduation in 1951.
Estep has dedicated the better part of his life trailblazing in academia. He began his career in 1962 as instructor in physiology and research veterinarian in Howard University’s College of Medicine. He moved up in rank to serve as executive assistant to the vice president for health affairs in 1970 and finally as the executive assistant to the president in 1971 just before leaving the university to complete a short stint with the National Institutes of Health. In 1972, Estep returned to Howard, where he served some 18 years as vice president for development and university relations, spearheading the institution’s first $100 million fund raising campaign.
As senior advisor for government relations, Estep will work to advance the strategic interests of UMES among national and state elected officials, their staff members and constituents, and with governmental agencies at the state, federal and grassroots levels.
Estep earned a master’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and a doctorate in veterinary medicine from Tuskegee Institute. He resides in Rockville, Md.
