UMES Federalwide Assurance

UMES operates under a Federalwide Assurances (FWA) in accordance with Subpart A 46.103a which requires any institution engaged in non-exempt human subjects research conducted or supported by HHS to submit a written assurance of compliance to the OHRP.
Renewal of the FWA is required every five years. Any updates made to the FWA begins a new five-year period. Any updates/renewals to the FWA requires approval from the Director of Research and the Dean of Graduate Studies & Research.
IRB Registration
The UMES IRB, IRB000036 U Maryland Eastern Shore IRB #1-Behavioral, listed within the FWA is registered electronically in accordance with 45 CFR §46.501-505. Renewal is required every three years. All updates made to the IRB registration begins a new registration period. Any changes to the IRB registration require approval from the Director of Research and Dean of Graduate Studies & Research.
IORG Number
The Institution or Organization (IORG) number is a number assigned by the OHRP to an institution or organization the first time an institution or organization registers an IRB. The IORG number for UMES is IORG0003056.
FDA Registration
The UMES IRB is not registered with the FDA. Please contact the Dean of Graduate Studies & Research if you anticipate conducting or participating in a human subjects research study that requires FDA IRB approval.
