CITI Certifications: RCR for Human Subjects and Biomedical/Social & Behavioral Investigator Training

Question 1: Human Subjects Research

Please choose one learner group below based on your role and the type of human subjects activities you will conduct. You will be enrolled in the Basic Course for that group. Biomedical Research Investigators: Choose this group to satisfy CITI training requirements for Investigators and staff involved primarily in Biomedical research with human subjects.
or
Social & Behavioral Research Investigators: Choose this group to satisfy CITI training requirements for Investigators and staff involved primarily in Social and Behavioral research with human subjects.
or
Students who are conducting no more than minimal risk research.

Question 2: Responsible Conduct of Research

To take RCR training, please select your learner group below:
Select RCR for Human Subjects


Click “Submit” and the course will populate on your “My Courses” page.
 
Complete the courses.

In addition to maintaining your CITI Biomedical Research Investigator or Social & Behavioral Research Investigator certification and RCR for Human Subjects, the following professional development opportunities are offered:

1. CITI IRB Protocol Review

This course in CITI focuses on nonexempt IRB protocol reviews. You can access the course in the following manner:

Next to UMES select “View Courses”

Scroll to the bottom of the page. 
 
Under “Learner Tools for UMES”, select “Add a Course”
            Ignore Questions 1-5
            Question 6 – IRB Protocol Review – select “Yes”
Click “Submit” and the course will populate on your “My Courses” page.
 
Complete the course.

2. CITI Conflicts of Interest (COI)

This course in CITI focuses on nonexempt IRB protocol reviews. You can access the course in the following manner:

Next to UMES select “View Courses”


Scroll to the bottom of the page. 
 
Under “Learner Tools for UMES”, select “Add a Course”
            Ignore Questions 1-4 and 6
            Question 5 – Would you like to take the Conflict of Interest Course?


Select Yes


Click “Submit” and the course will populate on your “My Courses” page.
 
Complete the course.

Human Research Protection Foundational Training

This is a 5-lesson program offered by the OHRP that is estimated to take a total of 5 hours to complete. Training does not have to be completed in one sitting; however, you must print the certificate when you complete each lesson as OHRP does not track completion. This training is required for all investigators funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Considerations For Reviewing Human Subjects Research

This is a 3-lesson interactive program offered by the OHRP that is estimated to take a total of 90 minutes to complete. Training does not have to be completed in one sitting; however, you must print the certificate when you complete each lesson as OHRP does not track completion.
