How To Access CITI

The IRB will not review any application until the required CITI certificates of the investigators (faculty and students) have been received. 

The following guide is to help you access your CITI account or register for an account.

Register for CITI or Login

Please affiliate with University of Maryland Eastern Shore even if you are not part of the UMES student, faculty, or staff body.  By doing so you will not have to pay for your CITI training.

Under Learner Tools you can View Previously Completed Coursework.  Here you can review a course and share your record of course completion.

Under Learner Tools you can Add a course

Q1- Human Subjects Research

  • Faculty (select one)
    • Select Biomedical Research Investigator if you are involved primarily in Biomedical research with human subjects; OR
    • Social & Behavioral Investigator if you are involved primarily in Social and Behavioral research with human subjects.
  • Students, please ask your PI which of the following is most appropriate:
    • Students conducting no more than minimal risk research; OR
    • Research with data or laboratory specimens-ONLY: No direct contact with human subjects; OR
    • If your project is not EXEMPT, Select Biomedical Research Investigator if you are involved primarily in Biomedical research with human subjects or Social & Behavioral Investigator if you are involved primarily in Social and Behavioral research with human subjects.

Q2 – RCR

  • Faculty and Students – Select “RCR for Human Subjects.”

Q3 – Biosafety

  • Faculty and Students – Select “Not at this time.”

Q4 – Laboratory Animal Welfare – You are not required to select an option for your IRB application.

Q5 – Conflicts of Interest Course – this course is not required for most investigators
