MARYLAND REQUIREMENTS

Be registered to vote in Maryland. Check if you’re registered to vote.

To register to vote, you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen;
  • A Maryland resident;
  • At least 16 years old*.

You cannot have been:

  • Convicted of buying or selling votes;
  • Under guardianship for mental disability and found by a court to be unable to communicate a desire to vote;
  • Convicted of a felony and currently serving a court-ordered sentence of imprisonment. (Effective March 10, 2016)
  • Not claim the right to vote in another state

*You may register to vote if you are at least 16 years old but cannot vote unless you will be at least 18 years old by the next general election.

IN PERSON ID REQUIREMENTS

All Maryland voters must bring one of the following current and valid forms of photo voter ID to vote early or on Election Day:

  • A Maryland driver’s license or Photo ID
  • A US Passport or Passport Card
  • Includes all schools (public or private) high schools, colleges or universities in Maryland.
  • Another photo ID issued by the federal government, Maryland, or a local body of Maryland government
  • An employee photo ID issued by your employer

BY MAIL ID REQUIREMENTS
