Welcome to the website for the National Science Foundation-funded Center of Research Excellence in Science and Technology (CREST) Center for the Integrated Study of Coastal Ecosystem Processes and Dynamics (CISCEP) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Research at the Center focuses on the effects of climate variability on trophic interactions and food web dynamics, exchange of materials between coastal lagoons and the coastal ocean, and dynamics of heterotrophic bacteria, including pathogenic bacteria.
In addition to research, we provide training to a diverse group of undergraduate and graduate students in the marine and estuarine sciences through our research on the Maryland Coastal Bays and coastal ocean and expose the community to coastal environments and the challenges and concerns that come with them. To do that, we fund and coordinate programs for students in high school, high school educators, undergraduates and graduate students.
We hope you will explore this website to learn more about what we have to offer the Eastern Shore community and our partners through the impacts of the research our students and scientists are conducting.
Sincerely,
Paulinus Chigbu, Ph.D.
