As a faculty member, you play a key role in shaping your students’ career paths. We would like to collaborate with you to support their transition from academics to the workforce.  The Career and Professional Development Center offers a variety of services that can help students build the skills and confidence they need to succeed in their careers. From personalized career coaching to workshops and networking opportunities, we are committed to helping students achieve their professional goals.

Here are the services that we offer that will complement the academic preparation that you provide.

Don’t Cancel That Class: Request a Workshop

While planning your syllabi and working around your conference schedules, you don’t need to cancel a class. We are ready and willing to visit your classroom to facilitate a standard or customized workshop.

Class Assignments

Consider adding career-related activities to your course, here are a few suggestions:

  1. Attend a Career Fair
  2. Take the FOCUS 2 CAREER online assessment and complete the workbook
  3. Research 5-10 occupations (of interest) related to your major using the What Can I DO with This Major? software
  4. Create a HAWKS CONNECT account and investigate the job requirements/qualifications for your desired position
  5. Create a HAWKS CONNECT account and develop of list of 10 potential companies/organizations that you would like to work for
  6. Prepare your 30-second Elevator Pitch
  7. Conduct an Informational Interview with a professional in the field you are considering
  8. Create a cover letter and/or resume
  9. Create a LinkedIn account

Include Online Tools in Your Syllabus

Whether students are choosing a major, planning their job search, or applying to graduate school, the Career and Professional Development Center has online resources to help them develop their career action plan!

Referring Students to the Career and Professional Development Center                

The Career and Professional Development Center supports all current undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni, in all majors and academic programs. We provide individual career counseling sessions by appointments and walk-ins; career preparation workshops; online job, internship, graduate and professional school resources; critiques of resumes, cover letters, and personal statements; and opportunities for students to connect with employers. Please feel free to direct any students who could benefit from these resources to us. We’re here to collaborate and ensure they’re well-prepared for their future careers.
