Welcome to the Department of Aviation Sciences at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The mission of the Department is to provide quality professional degree programs, to prepare you for employment in your chosen field, to establish close partnerships with and facilitate technology transfers to industry and government, to prepare you for advanced studies, to contribute to the economic development of the State, and to provide related service to the campus community and the community at large.

The Department offers a Bachelor of Science program in Aviation Sciences with concentrations in Aviation Management, or Professional Pilot, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Maintenance Management and Upper Division Certificates in Aviation Maintenance Technology – Airframe and Powerplant.
We are student-centered and committed to providing world-class education and research in aviation sciences through focused activities with the help of our excellent faculty, staff, and facilities. The UMES bachelor’s in aviation sciences program is your gateway to a rewarding career in the sky. Our program is Maryland’s only four-year bachelor’s degree program in Aviation, and we are committed to preparing students for challenging and rewarding careers in the aviation industry.
You will have the opportunity to study in an exceptionally beautiful environment conducive to academic pursuits. Our campus is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, which is known for its stunning beaches, marshes, and forests. You will also learn from experienced faculty who are passionate about aviation and committed to helping you succeed.
The comparatively small size of our institution and programs allows close personal interaction and mentoring by the faculty in our engineering and aviation classes. This means that you will have the opportunity to get to know your professors and receive one-on-one attention. Job growth in the aviation industry is tremendous, providing outstanding career opportunities for new graduates. Domestic air transportation is expected to grow at a rate of nearly 3 percent a year through 2036.
