Welcome to the Department of Engineering and Aviation Sciences at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The mission of the Department is to provide quality professional degree programs, to prepare you for employment in their chosen field, to establish close partnerships with and facilitate technology transfers to industry and government, to prepare you for advanced studies, to contribute to economic development of the State, and to provide related service to the campus community and the community at large.

The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with specializations in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical. The department also offers a Bachelor of Science program in Aviation Sciences with concentrations in Aviation Electronics, Aviation Management, Aviation Software, or Professional Pilot.
Department laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentations, developmental hardware, and software tools for teaching and research. The curricula and undergraduate research activities in the department combine engineering fundamentals with hands-on laboratory experiences to reinforce the principles and concepts used in the classroom and to apply the knowledge learned to solve real-world problems in an environment that emphasizes leadership and teamwork.
We are student-centered and committed to providing a world-class education and research in engineering and aviation sciences through focused activities with the help of our excellent faculty, staff, and facilities. Bachelor of Science in Engineering
Our four-year ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in engineering will give you the skills and knowledge you need to solve the world’s most pressing problems.
Our program is founded on the basic sciences and emphasizes the development of a high degree of technical competence. You will learn the fundamentals of mathematics, physics, and chemistry, as well as engineering sciences such as mechanics, materials, thermodynamics, and electrical circuits. You will also gain experience in engineering design, which is the process of creating systems, components, and processes that meet specific needs.
In addition to your technical skills, you’ll also explore the humanities and social sciences knowledge, providing you with a well-rounded education that helps you understand the impact of engineering on society.

Our campus is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, which is known for its stunning beaches, marshes, and forests. Co-ops allow you to alternate between academic studies and paid extended work experiences related to your field of study. This gives you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn from industry professionals, and network with potential employers.
The Engineering and Aviation Sciences program at UMES offers a variety of co-op opportunities in a wide range of industries. You could work for aeronautical engineering firms, aerospace companies, or even the U.S. Air Force. In addition to co-ops, the program also organizes and participates in various engineering and aviation events throughout the academic year. This gives you the chance to learn about the latest industry trends, meet with professionals, and explore potential career opportunities.

Job growth in the aviation industry is tremendous, providing outstanding career opportunities for new graduates. Domestic air transportation is expected to grow at a rate of nearly 3 percent a year through 2036.
