University Postal Services

The UMES (University of Maryland Eastern Shore) Post Office is located on the ground floor of the Student Services Center. The lobby entrance is located to the left of the loading area along the sidewalk between the Student Services Center and William P. Hytche Athletic Center.

Incoming mail and packages 

ALL incoming mail and packages must have a street address and a box number. Please ensure your mail is addressed properly as indicated below.

*For incoming packages, please wait for email confirmation from UMES Postal Office before coming to pickup.

You must present your Hawk Card when picking up mail at the window. There is a $10.00 charge for lost mailbox keys.

Receiving Packages 

Please WAIT for a UMES package notification before attempting to pick up your package(s). 

Incoming USPS, FEDEX, and Amazon packages are currently delivered to the UMES Post Office. SMART PACKAGE LOCKERS are being introduced for Student package pickup. Therefore, carefully read your UMES package notification to see where and how to retrieve your package. 

When a package is received, it is scanned and placed in a locker or held at the window for pick up. Depending on your package notification, you will receive an email with a QR code that can be scanned at the SMART LOCKER kiosk, or an email with a QR code that can be scanned at the lobby counter. 

UMES Post Office counter: 

To retrieve your package please present your HawkCard and package notification QR Code at the window to be scanned.  A staff member will verify your information, retrieve your package, and collect your signature. 

UMES Post Office SMART LOCKER: 

To retrieve your package please proceed to the SMART LOCKER kiosk and scan your package notification QR Code. Then follow the instructions on the screen to access the locker and receive your package. Once you have your package, please gently close the locker door. 

Packages not retrieved from the SMART LOCKER within 72 hours (about 3 days) of notification email will be removed from the locker and you will have to pick up your package at the Post Office counter.  

*ALL Packages not picked up within 14 business days of receipt will be returned to the sender.  

Sending packages: 

If you have a package that needs to be shipped out and you have a prepaid shipment label through (USPS, FEDEX EXPRESS, FEDEX GROUND) you can bring your package to the campus post office front counter to ship out your package. 

*Please bring your shipping label with you, we are unable to print your shipping label. 

*Prepaid or Authorized Return Shipping Labels:  All labels must be printed in advance and brought with you. UMES Mail Services is not responsible for printing out labels.  

Campus mailboxes 

Only UMES students living on campus are issued a campus mailbox at no charge, by presenting their HawkCard. Post office staff does not check mailboxes, once issued a mailbox it will be the student’s responsibility to have their mailbox key to access their mailbox. If you lose, break, or bend your key it is $10.00 on your hawk card or it can be charged to your student account. No sharing mailboxes. 

UPS Packages: 

University Postal Services does not handle UPS packages or drop off. 

All UPS packages go through CENTRAL RECEIVING, located on the left side of the PHYSICAL PLANT BUILDING. 

Any package delivered to Central Receiving (UPS) will generate an email stating your package is available for pick up at Central Receiving. 

Payment:

The campus post office only accepts the HAWKCARD for any stamp or mail services.
