It is the policy of UMES that the UMES IRB will use a primary reviewer system to execute its convened meeting protocol review responsibilities for new review, continuing review, or amendment review.
A primary reviewer will be identified by the IRB Chair for each study. The primary reviewer will be a member of the IRB and will consider the criteria for approval set forth in Title 45 §46.111. The primary reviewer will summarize the study and lead discussion and deliberation regarding the study. The primary reviewer will work closely with the IRB Chair to communicate the outcome of the convened meeting with the study’s principal investigator.
