Leonardo Mathews
Leo graduated from the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff with a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries Biology and a minor in Chemistry. After graduation he enrolled into the Professional Science of Master’s Program in Quantitative Fisheries here at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in the Fall of 2010. During his internship, Leo worked at the NOAA Northeast Regional Office in Gloucester, MA. As part of his internship project, Leo performed statistical analysis on Sector Management.
Michele Traver
After graduating with a B.A. in marine conservation biology from Bradford College in 2000, Michele immediately began her career with NOAA’s Northeast Fisheries Science Center in Woods Hole, MA. Within the Population Dynamics Branch, she has assisted in various stock assessments for numerous species, though her primary species are red and offshore hake. She joined the PSM (Quantitative Fisheries Track) program, in Fall 2011 as a part time student.
Limary Rivera-Santana
Limary received her Bachelor’s Degree from Interamerican University of Puerto Rico in San German, Puerto Rico. She joined the PSM program in the fall of 2012.
Derrick Alcott
Derrick received his B.S degree from Monmouth University in 2012 in Marine and Environmental Biology. While at Monmouth he had the opportunity to work on statistical modeling for growth rates of larval goosefish, which sparked his interests in statistics in fisheries science. Derrick entered the PSM program with a concentration in Quantitative Fisheries in the Fall of 2012.”
Susan Kelly
In the course of teaching high school physics, environmental science and science research, Susan became engaged in marine population research while helping scientists develop educational activities for secondary students. She is interested in investigating the impact of climate regime shifts on fisheries, as well as efforts to identify and mitigate changes in abundance and distribution. Susan is eager to apply her background in education and curriculum writing towards the development of activities that will help communicate contemporary issues in fisheries management. The research experience and scientific methodology incorporated in the Professional Science Masters program will support this effort and complement her Masters in Education from City University of New York and undergraduate degree from Columbia University.
Jaime Belanger
Jaime received her Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology from University of New Hampshire. Jaime has worked in both fisheries science and education in the public, private and non-profit sectors. A committed environmental steward and marine scientist, she is currently working as the Education Program Manager at the Sassafras Environmental Education Center while she pursues a Quantitative Fisheries degree through the PSM program at UMES.
