PRINCESS ANNE, MD—Doney Denise Wortham of Forestville, MD, is a recent graduate of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and the recipient of the 2007 Dr. Thelma W. Hedgepeth Memorial Prize in Mathematics and Computer Science.

Wortham, daughter to Ronald and DelondaWortham and a 2003 graduate of Central High School, graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science. In addition to the Hedgepeth Memorial Prize, during her time at the University she was recognized as an outstanding mentor in her department and inducted into the UMES Golden Key International Honour Society.  

The Hedgepeth Award was created by Dr. Chester M. Hedgepeth, associate professor in the UMES Department of English and Modern Languages, to honor his late wife, Dr. Thelma W. Hedgepeth, a long-time faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.  The annual $1,000 award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a graduating senior in the Department.
