PRINCESS ANNE, MD – What two can do, six can do better! Such is the challenge to University of Maryland Eastern Shore Carnival Gala co-chairs Dr. William Talley, Tselate Talley, Dottie Turner, Jackie Cassidy, Pamela Lankford and Gladys Goslee, who have been named to lead a committee of 25 in planning 2007’s best party on the Shore.
Dr. Talley is chair of the UMES Department of Rehabilitation and began his work in academic settings teaching at The Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans, LA.
“The Gala gives us all a chance to play a positive role in shaping the lives of our best and brightest,” said Dr. Talley, UMES Gala co-chair.
Tselate Talley, former vice president of administration at Banker’s Business Management, Inc., in Chicago, IL, is currently advising coordinator for UMES Retention and Support Services and says that serving as UMES Gala co-chair is a way to give back some of the blessings she has received.
One of four community chairpersons, Turner is a retired special education teacher who is well-known on the Shore for her work in the community.
“My reasons for serving are two-fold,” said Turner. “It helps raise scholarship money for students and it affords me the opportunity to work with many talented people.”
Cassidy, community co-chair and former owner of Flowers Unlimited in Salisbury said, “The Gala makes scholarship funds possible for deserving students in need of help, making their dreams of attaining a college degree a reality.”
After years of buying commercial land and subdividing it for resale, Cassidy has put her knowledge to work in her own business as commercial realtor with the Long & Foster Real Estate Company. She is a veteran member of the committee, having served for the nine years the event has been in existence.
Lankford has joined the community co-chairs in working to make this year’s Gala a success. A former food broker from a family of entrepreneurs, she thrives on giving back to the community.
“Along with giving back to the community,” said Lankford, my biggest passion is working with UMES.”
Goslee, also a community co-chair, is a retired Wicomico County teacher who has been recognized for her work in the community with several honors and awards. Her professional and personal travel experiences are numerous and have reinforced in her that we are all here to help one another.
UMES hosts Carnival Gala 2007 on Saturday, March 3. The event promises an evening adorned with gourmet cuisine, lively entertainment, a festive atmosphere and purpose. For more information, call the UMES Office of Institutional Advancement at 410-651-7773.
