PRINCESS ANNE, MD – John Abent, a Worcester County educator and pastor at the Ocean City Christian School, has completed a ground school training course aimed at certifying educators with an interest in introducing aviation subjects into their classrooms.
The aviation outreach course was sponsored by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Aviation Science program. Participants were taught basic aerodynamics, aviation regulations, aircraft structures and controls, flight planning techniques, aviation physiology and fundamentals of instruction.
The outreach program for educators at UMES will be offered annually in the summer and will provide the opportunity for past participants to upgrade their ground instructor certificate to include an instrument and/or advanced instructor rating. Interested parties should contact Bryan McElwain or Chris Hartman at 410-651-6365.
