PRINCESS ANNE, MD – Just as UMES kicks off the public phase of its Campaign for Academic Excellence, a new professional has joined the Advancement team. Sylvia Y. Wells has been named major gifts officer.
A career in sales and marketing has inspired in Wells a love of negotiations. She has worked in fast-paced big business and even with mom-and-pop shops that called for her unique blend of entrepreneurial drive, spirit and vision.
Wells comes to UMES from Horseheads, NY, where she was most recently the president of Stetson Enterprises, a successful sales, services and marketing company. She holds a master’s degree in education from Virginia State University.
It was Wells’ affability and enthusiasm for negotiation that attracted the attention of UMES Development Director Veronique Diriker. “With her energy and professionalism, Sylvia will represent UMES well to our donors,” Diriker said. “I am pleased to have her on the team.”
In her new position, Wells will be responsible for identifying, cultivating and stewarding major gift opportunities for the University.
