For Academic Year 2020-21, the Maryland-Resident tuition is $332 per credit hour for Graduate students. Most MAT students take 3 credit hours in January of their first year, 12 in the spring. 3 in the summer and 12 in the fall of the first year. In the spring of the second year, students typically take 9 credits for a total of 39 credits. At 2020-21tuition rates, this totals $12,948 for coursework. At present, there is also a student fee and technology fee that totals $41 per credit hour. This brings in-state tuition plus mandatory fees to $1,599 for the entire program, which can be completed in 17 months.*
For Academic Year 2020-21, the Eastern Shore Region Rate (Delaware and Eastern Shore of Virginia Residents) is $458 per credit and out of state tuition is $616 per credit hour for Graduate students. The student fee and technology fee that totals $41 per credit hour, same as Maryland residents.* As a reminder, students take 39 credits over the 17 month program.

Other program costs include the cost of books and other materials for each course. This can vary widely from course to course, but each faculty member attempts to keep these costs as reasonable as possible while making sure the necessary materials are required for each course. Another costs include room and board while in residence. Contact the Program Director for more information or the UMES Office of Financial Aid.
All students must complete a criminal background check. Fingerprinting fees are approximately $50.00 but vary according to locality.
Hazel Scholarship
Hazel scholars are chosen from undergraduate and graduate students in education. The annual scholarships will be awarded with a priority to students from the Eastern Shore of Maryland, the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and Sussex County, Delaware.
