ADVISEMENT SYSTEM
The MAT Director serves as the primary advisor, who is available to serve as mentor. The Director advises MAT candidates on academic and career plans. Candidates may not register for classes without discussing their program with the MAT Director. They may then be cleared to register on HawkWeb. Candidates may not register for classes without discussing their program with the MAT Director and receive the advisor’s signature on the registration and drop/add forms.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
All Candidates in the UMES/SU MAT program must obtain passing scores on the portfolios they assemble as a capstone to the program. This portfolio is created under the direction of the EMAT 511 Seminar professor and presented at the culmination of the Seminar.
TRANSFER CREDITS
A maximum of six graduate credits may be accepted for transfer into the program, provided these credits are as specified (see transfer credits section of the graduate catalog).
PORTFOLIO

INTERNSHIP
Completion of a full-time internship at a Professional Development School is required for completion of the degree. This includes a pre-internship the semester prior to the full-time internship.
LOCATION OF COURSES
As this is a collaborative program, coursework is done at both the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and Salisbury University. Candidates will be notified about the location of where courses take place and will pre-register using the inter-institutional registration process through their “home” institution.
GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS
Usually, the UMES Department of Education has a limited number of graduate assistantships each year. Graduate assistants receive tuition remission, a stipend, and full- time assistants. They also receive benefits competitive with other institutions in the University System of Maryland.
