Library Instruction Request:

Instruction sessions are an integral component of the library’s mission to support the research needs of the university. Sessions can be tailored to the needs of your class to assist students in completing assignments. They can range from an overview of basic library resources to the use of advanced or subject research materials and techniques.  Faculty are encouraged to consult with their liaison for assistance when planning assignments that require library resources.

To schedule a library class:

  • Submit the form below. You will be contacted by your liaison to get more information about the class and to finalize the date/time of the instruction session. OR
  • Call your library liaison directly to schedule a class. Click on the Library Liaison List for the librarian assigned to your department or program. OR
  • Call the Reference Desk at (410) 651-7937 or email us at refuser@umes.edu to schedule a class.

Note: The library requires one week’s notice to schedule your class. Unless otherwise requested, the sessions take place in the first floor classroom (Room 1114), which consists of seating for 20 students with additional seating as needed. This classroom allows for a hands-on research experience.

Note: Please check with your Liaison to determine if a class time is available.

Library Orientation: This includes, instruction on how to use Academic Search Premier, tour of the library, off campus access, and an explanation of how to get resources not available in FDL.

Subject Oriented Resources: This includes demonstrations of databases related to the subject and specialized reference materials available.
