What is CEI?

We are the UMES Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and are committed to assisting students, faculty, staff, alumni and community based entrepreneurs to “Build a Business to Soar Above and Beyond”. We provide workshops, seminars, speaker series and other events to help foster this development.

Is the makerspace free to use?

Yes, it is absolutely free!

What are your office hours?

Our office hours are from 9am – 5pm.

Who can use the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation?

CEI is open to students, faculty, staff, and community members who are interested in starting their own business, launching a new product, or developing an innovative project. We welcome individuals from all disciplines and backgrounds.

What is a Makerspace?

Our Makerspace is a creative, hands-on workshop equipped with tools and technology for prototyping, designing, and building physical products. Whether you’re working on a tech prototype, a design, or a craft project, the Makerspace provides the space and resources to bring your ideas to life.

How do I gain access to the Makerspace?

Access to the Makerspace is available to members of the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. To use the space, you must attend an introductory safety and usage training session with one of our staff members. After that, you can book time in the Makerspace based on availability.

How can I get involved with entrepreneurship programs at CEI?

You can get involved by attending our workshops, pitch competitions, networking events, and mentorship programs. We offer a variety of resources to help entrepreneurs at all stages, from idea development to scaling a business.

Do you offer funding or grants for new ventures?

While we don’t currently directly provide funding, we can connect you with investors, grant opportunities, and funding platforms. Additionally, we hold pitch events where you can present your idea to potential investors.

How can I schedule time in the Makerspace?

You can reserve time in the Makerspace through our online booking system, Co-works, or by speaking with our staff. Availability may vary based on demand and scheduled workshops, so it’s always a good idea to book in advance.
