🎓 Department of Rehabilitation Scholarships

We are pleased to offer scholarships and graduate assistantship opportunities to eligible undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Department of Rehabilitation. Awards are granted on a rolling basis and approved once per month until funds are exhausted.
🗓 Application Deadlines
Spring Awards: Approved once monthly through March 30
Fall Awards: Approved once monthly through October 31
✅ General Scholarship Requirements
To be considered for any scholarship or assistantship offered by the Department of Rehabilitation, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Complete the Scholarship Application
Submit a fully completed application along with all required supporting documentation by the designated deadline. - Maintain Full-Time Enrollment
Be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in a Rehabilitation program at UMES during the award period. - Active Membership in the Student Rehabilitation Association (SRA)
Join and participate in the SRA to foster professional development, peer engagement, and service learning. - Commitment to Service and Leadership
Agree to actively engage in at least one of the following during the academic year:- Departmental recruitment initiatives
- Leadership development activities
- Community outreach or advocacy efforts supported by the department
🌟 Scholarship & Assistantship Categories
🔁 General Continuation Requirements
To maintain eligibility for scholarship or assistantship funding in subsequent semesters, recipients must meet the following continuation criteria. These requirements apply to all categories of awards offered by the Department of Rehabilitation and ensure equitable, purposeful use of scholarship resources.
✅ 1. Academic Performance
- Maintain the minimum GPA required for your specific award category:
- Merit-Based Scholarships: 3.5 or higher
- Aspire Award (GPA 3.0–3.49): Minimum 3.0
- Need-Based, Diversity, or Financial Relief Awards: Minimum 2.7
- Academic Recovery Awards: Demonstrated improvement toward 2.7 or above
✅ 2. Enrollment Status
- Maintain full-time enrollment in a Rehabilitation program throughout the duration of the award
- Students in their final semester may request an exception (subject to approval)
✅ 3. Active Departmental Engagement
- Continue active participation in the Student Rehabilitation Association (SRA)
- Fulfill any agreed-upon recruitment, outreach, or leadership commitments each semester
- Attend required workshops or events if outlined in your award category
✅ 4. Annual Progress Review
- Submit a brief reflection report or update at the end of each academic year, highlighting academic progress, departmental involvement, and professional development
🚫 5. One Scholarship Rule (“No Double Dipping”)
- Students may only receive one scholarship or assistantship award from the Department of Rehabilitation per academic year
- If eligible for more than one category, the award of greater value or strategic fit will be granted at the discretion of the scholarship committee
- Students may combine a departmental award with external funding or federal financial aid, where allowable
💸 6. Award Availability
- All awards are subject to available funding each academic year
- Scholarships are approved monthly through October 31 (fall) and March 30 (spring) until funds are exhausted
- Submission of an application does not guarantee an award
Work-Study
Limited number of positions available for Work-study Students in the Department of Rehabilitation. Please go to the Office of Human Resources to apply for a position. Other work-study positions are available throughout campus.
