Jonathan Blackmon
Jonathan Blackmon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Deaf Education from Lenoir-Rhyne College and a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Services from UMES (University of Maryland Eastern Shore).With over 16 years of experience as an ASL (American Sign Language) Instructor and Academic Advisor at UMES, Jonathan has played a crucial role in educating and empowering students in the field of sign language and deaf education. Outside of academia, Jonathan has served as a Community ASL Interpreter on the Eastern shore for over 24 years. Through his interpreting skills, he has facilitated effective communication between the deaf and hearing communities, enabling equal access to various aspects of life.
Jonathan’s desire to give back to the community is evident in his involvement with The Epoch Dream Center in Hebron, MD. For more than a decade, he has served as the Summer Director, as well as a Board member and volunteer. The center’s mission focuses on providing support and resources to those in need. Jonathan enjoys spending quality time with his family. He finds solace and rejuvenation in the great outdoors, whether it’s camping, hiking, fishing, or simply soaking up the sun at the beach. With his extensive experience in deaf education, ASL instruction, community interpreting, and his passion for outdoor activities and family time, Jonathan Blackmon continues to inspire and uplift those around him through his dedication, expertise, and commitment to making a positive impact.
