
🎓 Graduation Requirements – M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling
1. Complete Required Coursework
- Successfully complete all required graduate-level courses in the Rehabilitation Counseling curriculum.
- The program consists of a 60-credit Curriculum aligned with CACREP standards.
2. Maintain Minimum GPA
- Maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale throughout the program.
- Earn no more than one grade of C in their coursework (Exceptions: following courses are mandatory to pass with a B or higher: RECN 622, RECN 642, RECN 701, RECN 705, RECN 712, RECN 720)
3. Time Limit for Completion
- Complete all degree requirements within five (5) years from the date of matriculation.
4. Practicum and Internship
Clinical field experiences are required, including:
- 100 hours of Practicum (RECN 705)
- 600 hours of Internship (RECN 712)
These experiences provide supervised, real-world counseling practice.
5. Comprehensive Examination
- Successfully pass a written Comprehensive Examination before beginning the internship.
- The exam is typically offered each October and April.
- Students are allowed up to two attempts to pass the comprehensive exam.
- Failure to pass after two attempts may result in dismissal from the program.
6. Advisor Approval for Exam Eligibility
- Students must meet with their academic advisor to verify that all program coursework requirements are complete or in progress before taking the comprehensive exam.
Comprehensive Exams
The comprehensive examination will be administered during the fall and spring semesters of each year. In order to qualify for the comprehensive examination, students should have completed or currently be enrolled in CACREP-based curriculum requirements (see course sequence). Each student is responsible for meeting with his/her advisor before planning to take the comprehensive examination to ensure that all curriculum requirements have been met. Due to the need to have sufficient faculty on hand to evaluate these examinations, no comprehensive examination will be scheduled during the summer. Failure to pass the comprehensive examination on two attempts will result is dismissal from the program.Â
