All students must maintain a cumulative 3.0 or better grade point average, complete 60 credits degree requirements in five (5) years or less, and successfully pass a written comprehensive examination. The written comprehensive examination may be attempted a maximum of two times. Comprehensive examinations are given each October and April.
In terms of clinical experiences, students are required to complete 100 hours of Practicum (RECN 705), and 600 hours of Internship (RECN 712).
Comprehensive Exams
In addition to completing the CACREP-based curriculum, the requirements for the master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling will include a final (comprehensive) written examination to be completed in the last semester of classes prior Internship. The comprehensive examination will be administered during the fall and if necessary spring of each year. In order to qualify for the comprehensive examination, students should have completed or currently be enrolled in CACREP-based curriculum requirements (see course sequence). Each student is responsible for meeting with his/her advisor before planning to take the comprehensive examination to ensure that all curriculum requirements have been met. Due to the need to have sufficient faculty on hand to evaluate these examinations, no comprehensive examination will be scheduled during the summer. Failure to pass the comprehensive examination on two attempts will result is dismissal from the program.
