Program Evaluation
The Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling (MSRC) program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The MSRC program is a 60-credit hour program that can be completed in two and a half years (26 months) if students attend full-time. Students are admitted in the fall and spring every year. The program has maintained a goal of admission average of 14 students per year. Currently, the graduate program has 41 full-time, part-time and non-seeking degree students (Fall 2024) and graduates an average of 6 students per year. Graduates of the program in rehabilitation are eligible for certification by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) and eligible to apply for a professional counseling license by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists.
The program has four tenure-track core faculty and two non-core faculty, and one clinical coordinator. The estimated yearly costs for full-time graduate students in the MSRC program are $10,152.00/year for Maryland residents and $19,467.00 per year for non-Maryland residents. Of the graduates of the MSRC program, 100% have gone on to work in state/federal and/or other public or private rehabilitation settings within six months of graduation. The program has a strong reputation in the community for the hight quality training that students are exposed to, resulting in higher-level clinical skills and knowledge of rehabilitation. Approximately 95% of the students in the program are from underrepresented groups, including persons with disabilities.
The Department of Rehabilitation currently has a grant from the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA), departmental scholarships and graduate assistantships. Students have also been afforded the opportunities to participate in local and regional rehabilitation conferences. Students are required to successfully pass a comprehensive examination as a requirement to move forward to internship (RECN 712) and complete the program. The exam is offered only during the fall and spring semesters. Currently, our comprehensive examinations have a 95% pass rate.
