Marshall F. Stevenson, Jr, is currently Dean of the School of Education, Social Sciences and the Arts at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Prior to joining UMES, he was Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Delaware State University, and Dean of the Division of Social Sciences at Dillard University in New Orleans, LA.
He received his B. A. in History from the University of Cincinnati and earned his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in History from the University of Michigan. Stevenson began his formal teaching career as an assistant professor of history at The Ohio State University. His area of expertise is African American history with a focus on Black-Jewish relations, as well as the role of ideology in modern day globalization.
He has held several fellowships ranging from a Carter G. Woodson Fellow at the Institute for African American and African Studies at the University of Virginia Charlottesville, VA. to a Scholar-In-Residence at Oxford University (St. Johns College) in the United Kingdom.
He currently serves as one of eighteen commissioners on the Maryland Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which is tasked to research the lynchings that took place in Maryland from the mid-1850s to 1933 and consider a process of restorative justice to the families and descendants of those victims of public lynchings within the state.
