Can UMES serve students without a postsecondary degree?
Yes, you do not need a bachelor’s degree to take courses. Students can take classes at the undergraduate level. Contact Marianne Hollerbach at mhollerbach@umes.edu for more information on the undergraduate level courses and programs we offer.
Are UMES courses focused on a unique content area for a specific audience?
Our courses are specific to CTE, WBL, and T&E.
Are UMES’s courses continuing education courses?
No, they are MSDE approved for university credit.
Does UMES offer courses for certification?
Yes, we offer undergraduate and graduate level courses for teaching certification.
Does UMES offer any specific endorsements?
Yes, we offer the Work Base Learning endorsement at the undergraduate and graduate level.
How much is tuition? Does UMES offer a payment plan option?

What is the delivery format of the UMES CTE, WBL, and PTE courses?
Most CTE graduate, WBL endorsement, and PTE certification courses are offered in an online synchronous and asynchronous format with condensed winter and summer courses also available. The EDTE 445 or CTED 655 course for the WBL endorsement requires in-person attendance for industry visits in the Baltimore region during the condensed summer session. We often work with students to make our courses accessible to those at a distance. Please contact us for more details to discuss course options and a plan of study.
When are UMES’s courses taught?
Courses are tailored toward working teachers and offered at night or sometimes on Saturdays.
Does UMES accept transfer courses from other institutions?
Courses are evaluated on a case by case basis, contact us to request a transfer evaluation. A maximum of six graduate credits can be considered for transfer into UMES toward the Master’s in CTE degree.
Who teaches the courses at UMES?
Faculty with terminal degrees in CTE related fields, experienced K-12 teachers, and K-12 administrators teach in our program.
