PRINCESS ANNE, MD-First Shore Federal Savings and Loan of Salisbury recently made a $5,000 gift to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in support of student scholarships.\u00a0 The gift, coupled with an earlier charitable donation, boosts First Shore’s giving during the UMES Campaign for Academic Excellence to $25,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cumulative donations of $25,000 during the seven-year (2004-2011), $14 million Campaign are recognized by the naming of a classroom in honor of the donor. The First Shore Federal Savings and Loan Classroom is on the second floor of Hazel Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We recognize how important UMES is to this region and to so many people on the Shore,” said Marty Neat, president of First Shore. “We contribute because there are so many impressive things happening at UMES.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier in the campaign, First Shore made a $20,000 gift to endow a scholarship for students transferring from Wor-Wic Community College to major in construction management technology at UMES.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The priority for the campaign is to raise funds for endowed student scholarships. Thus far, donations to the UMES campaign exceed $10 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
