{"id":4176,"date":"2012-09-13T07:26:38","date_gmt":"2012-09-13T11:26:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pr\/?p=4176"},"modified":"2012-09-13T07:26:38","modified_gmt":"2012-09-13T11:26:38","slug":"umes-marks-126th-milestone-with-convocation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/scm\/umes-marks-126th-milestone-with-convocation\/","title":{"rendered":"UMES marks 126th milestone with convocation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/09\/grads-Matt.jfif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4178\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thursday, September 13, 2012<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>UMES marks 126<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;milestone with convocation and commencement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PRINCESS ANNE, MD-(Sept. 13, 2012)Today, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore celebrated its 126<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;Founders&#8217; Day and the graduation of its largest class of Doctor of Physical Therapy students in the program&#8217;s 10-year history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thirty graduates, representing nine states; one being Hawaii, walked across the stage to receive their diplomas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mike Miller has a job lined up at a private physical therapy practice in his hometown, Myrtle Beach, S.C. &#8220;I&#8217;m definitely prepared educationally and clinically,&#8221; he said.&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8220;I feel confident about getting out there and practicing right away.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next step for the PT students is to sit for a national certification exam Oct. 23.&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8220;I&#8217;m very excited,&#8221; Celia Martins, a native of Brazil, said. &#8220;I&#8217;m sure we&#8217;re all going to be ready for it.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The university is a leader in producing graduates who pass on the first try, said Dr. Raymond Blakely, the program&#8217;s founder.&nbsp;&nbsp;Once they pass, they will enter the healthcare field as physical therapists in hospitals, senior care facilities and for private practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Johnny C.
